(Washington, DC) - The Alliance for Charitable Reform (ACR) today applauded the efforts of Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) in their introduction of a tax relief package that will assist those individuals most devastated by Hurricane Katrina. “We are delighted that Senators Grassley and Baucus acted so swiftly to assist those most severely affected by Hurricane Katrina,” said ACR Co-Chair Dan Peters. “The additional incentives provided in the tax relief package will aid the relief efforts and will make it easier both for individuals to donate to charitable relief efforts and for those in need to get help quickly,” said Peters. “We encourage the Senators to lengthen the duration of the tax incentives provisions to at least a year to allow donors maximum flexibility to give in meaningful ways,” he continued.
“It has become clear in the past few weeks that federal, state and local governments cannot solve this problem alone. America’s charitable community stands ready and able to fill the void. The efforts of those in Congress to encourage charitable giving are critical and we applaud them,” Peters concluded. |
